What to expect in ceramics 1:
We will be working with a variety of handbuilding techniques to create vessels, reliefs, and sculptures. The emphasis will be on foundational techniques such as attaching clay, building with the clay when it is partially drying as well as when it is plastic and pliable. In Ceramics 1 students learn what limitations and strengths clay has as an art medium.If the state of the pandemic allows, we are hoping to get some work on throwing on the wheels as well.
We will also learn about a variety of ceramic artists, the history of clay, and the various processes that are used to create some really magnificent ceramic work.

This is your work week. Work on pinch pot projects posted on google classroom.
Day #14 - 11:

Slab cup:

3. Create your sculpture:
Beware! If your sculpture is too thick the clay will compress in the kiln and crack. Make sure you hollow out any thick areas using a loop tool once your clay is leatherhard.
4. Turn in:
If you are transporting it back to the school make sure you keep it in the leatherhard stage so that it doesn't break in transport. We'll unwrap it and let it dry at the school.
Begin to work on clay vocabulary:
Step # 1: Click here and make a copy of the slide show so that you can edit it. Name it
(your name clay vocab).
Step #2: Make your copy of the clay vocabulary editable and use the accompanying slides to to fill in the answers when prompted.
Step #3: This slide show will be one of your last grades for this class.
