Printmaking

Every student in grades kindergarten through fifth explores the process of printmaking.  They use a variety of process and techniques to build their knowledge base.  This building of skill allows them to communicate visually with clarity and creative self expression.

Kindergarten

Kindergarteners are working in small group studio situations to create collograph prints using found materials, cardboard, fabric, and other textures to print a non-objective print edition that any parent would love to hang in their home.

First Grade

First grade students are working on printmaking designs to be transferred to styrofoam block printing plates.  They are using brayers to apply ink consistently over the surface and are creating an edition of prints from one of their designs.

Second Grade

Second grade students are also working on printmaking designs to be transferred to styrofoam block printing plates.  They will be expected to use their previous experience with styrofoam and printing technique to create a more developed print edition.

Third Graders

Students will be block printing using craft foam and cardboard while using an art history coorelation to the famous blind artist Henri Matisse.  They will explore treated surface printing by painting and preparing paper before printing on the surface.

Fourth graders will use linoleum block printing cutters to cut away portions of soft kut printing plates to reveal an original design.  Some students will choose to work with non-objective designs while others may identify a realistic or abstract subject.
